For the cultivation and differentiation of a variety of microorganisms based on amylase production. For the differentiation of bacteria, e.g. Neisseria sp. based upon starch hydrolysis. After incubation, starch hydrolysis is determined by the addition of Gram’s or Lugol’s iodine solution. Organisms that produce amylase appear as colonies surrounded by a clear zone.
