For the selective isolation, cultivation, and presumptive identification of Aeromonas hydrophila and other Gram-negative bacteria based on their ability to decarboxylate lysine and ornithine, ferment maltose, and produce H2S. Maltose-fermenting bacteria appear as yellow colonies. Bacteria that produce lysine or ornithine decarboxylase turn the medium greenish-yellow to yellow. Bacteria that produce H2S appear as colonies with black centers.
